MANILA, Philippines — Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez was arrested for plunder.
The Sandiganbayan Third Division ordered the representative of Leyte’s 1st district to be taken into government custody.

Romualdez was charged by the Office of the Ombudsman before the Sandiganbayan on Monday for allegedly receiving P7.44 billion worth of kickbacks from flood control, infrastructure and other government projects from 2022 to 2025.
This came just over a month after Romualdez’s cousin, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., said the cases against the former House speaker in connection with the infrastructure corruption scandal would proceed. /mcm
