Cody Rhodes has named Bianca Belair as a possible candidate for the greatest athlete WWE has ever had. Speaking on the Double Coverage Podcast, Rhodes talked about the physical gifts of the performers he has shared the ring with, and Belair's athletic ability was one of the things that stood out to him. He said her strengths are a good example of why sports and athleticism matter inside the ring. The 37-year-old EST has not wrestled since WrestleMania 41, and there is still no clear date for her return as the hiatus continues.
Cody Rhodes Says Bianca Belair's Athletic Ability Gives Her a Rare Edge Inside WWE
The topic came up when Rhodes was asked about the strongest wrestlers he has faced, and Belair was one of the names he went to. He didn't hold back about the former Women's Champion.
“Bianca Belair is maybe WWE's greatest athlete ever,” Rhodes said.
From there he explained why that kind of athleticism can be a real advantage in putting on a match.
“So to be able to have that melting pot, she's a prime example of if anyone looks at the system, if they look at the system today and think, ‘Oh, why do they care so much about the sports and the athleticism?' It can really help in the ring. It can really give you a side of an edge,” he added.
Rhodes also said there's more than one way to stand out in WWE. Some wrestlers get theirs from the microphone, others from ring awareness, consistency or plain self-belief.
“Some people's edge is their promo. Some people's edge is their savvy. Some people's edge is their sheer consistency or their ability to believe in themselves,” he said.
Rhodes Also Points to Brock Lesnar's Physical Gifts While Belair Remains Away From WWE
Belair wasn't the only name he brought up. Rhodes also talked about Brock Lesnar, the former WWE Champion, and what his speed and size bring.
“Other people's edge is just like we're talking about with Brock. Just the fact that you said he can run a four-something, he looks that way, and his size,” Rhodes said.
Belair's last match was at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, a triple threat for the Women's World Title against Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY, and she suffered a severe finger injury there.
She had surgery on it in February, and she showed up at WrestleMania 42 to announce that she and her husband Montez Ford were expecting their first child. She has since given birth to a baby boy, and WWE hasn't confirmed when she will come back to the ring.
Rhodes has plenty on his own plate. He beat Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42, but Orton evened the score at Sunday Night's Main Event on September 6 in Atlanta.
SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis made their rematch official for Crown Jewel on October 23, and Rhodes proposed the Last Man Standing stipulation, which Orton accepted. That match takes place on November 7 in Riyadh.
Before that, Rhodes is set to appear on NXT on November 4, where he will present the Dusty Rhodes Classic trophy to the tournament winners.
