Former UFC security guard Everett wins fighter contract

Just a few months ago, Sal Everett was working for the UFC as a security guard and runner - now he's earned a contract to fight for the promotion.

In Dana White's Contender Series, the 29-year-old knocked out fellow American Ozzy Martin with a devastating combination in the first round.

UFC president White awarded Everett a contract with the promotion after the victory, before admitting he struggled to contain his excitement after watching him win.

"That's why I got up and walked out after he won, I don't want to be overly celebrating," said White.

"Sal is one of the greatest kids ever and it couldn't happen to a better person - I'm happy for him.

"I think this contract changes his life so he doesn't have to work at the office."

Everett joined the UFC about three years ago as a security guard, before later becoming a runner for White, doing errands.

Everett trained in MMA while working for the UFC and won the first four fights of his career before being offered a spot in the Contender Series.

He recently left his job at the UFC so he could focus on his career as a professional fighter.

"Hey boss, I'm ready to be in the UFC," Everett said during his post-fight interview.

"The whole division, you know my name. I'm not backing down from any challenges."

Everett's win comes one week after Briton George Staines' victory, where he won a UFC contract after stopping Loai Abushaar inside 61 seconds.
