Maya Hawke has multiple upcoming movies and shows to keep her busy in the years ahead. The daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman broke into acting in 2017 by playing Jo March in BBC's Little Women, but it was portraying Robin Buckley in Stranger Things that gave her a true breakout role.
In just a few years, Maya Hawke's best movies have helped her build up a résumé that includes appearances in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Wes Anderson's Asteroid City, and as a new emotion in Inside Out 2. She and Netflix expanded their partnership beyond new seasons of Stranger Things with her roles in Fear Street Part One: 1994, Do Revenge, and Maestro. Maya has even acted opposite her parents, with roles in her father's The Good Lord Bird series and her mother's The Kill Room.
Now that Stranger Things is over, the 28-year-old singer-songwriter and actress has more time to pursue additional projects. This has led her to join major upcoming productions, ranging from iconic franchises to small dramas, with projects set up to bring her back to theaters and keep her around on streaming.
With one 2026 movie already behind her in One Night Only, here is a look at Maya's upcoming movies and shows through the rest of the year and what she's working on to fill her slate afterward.
Hawke is bringing her talents to one of the biggest franchises around with The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The sixth movie in the YA sci-fi franchise turns the focus to a young Haymitch Abernathy, now played by Joseph Zada. The second Hunger Games prequel returns director Francis Lawrence and is loaded with other familiar characters, which is how Hawke factors in.
She is set to play Wiress, the District 3 tribute who won the 49th Hunger Games and previously appeared in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire when she re-entered the arena for the third Quarter Quell. Wiress' role in Sunrise on the Reaping comes as one of two mentors assigned to District 12's tributes. This becomes the foundation of her and Haymitch's relationship that carries forward in the franchise.
Hawke is part of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping's stacked cast that also includes Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Elle Fanning, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Lili Taylor, Whitney Peak, and franchise returns for Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson.
In the lead-up to her Hunger Games debut, Hawke has spoken about how much she loved playing Wiress and being part of this production, telling PEOPLE, "My part is very small, but I’m excited. I love my character. I am so excited to get to see the movie and to be a fan. I was also just so honored to work with Francis and to participate in any way in anti-fascist populist art.”
However, she also shared a fear of being involved, saying, "I hope I didn't ruin it. [laugh] You know when you watch a movie, and there’s a ton of people in it, and sometimes someone comes in, and you’re like, ‘Nope, they didn’t understand the tone.’ I hope I’m not the outcast who didn’t get it." The small glimpses the marketing has provided of her interpretation of Wiress suggest that is not the case.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is confirmed to release in theaters on November 20, 2026. Barring another prequel movie that could involve Wiress, this should be Hawke's only time playing the character.
4 The God Of The Woods (TBD)
Hawke is returning to Netflix for a new TV show, The God of the Woods. The show is an adaptation of Liz Moore's 2024 mystery novel of the same name. The story revolves around police investigator Judyta Luptack as she looks into the disappearance of the 13-year-old daughter of the wealthy Van Laar family at the summer camp they sponsor. Curiously, she is not the first kid to vanish from the campsite.
The series has been in the works at Netflix since 2025, with Moore writing and producing alongside Liz Hannah (The Girl from Plainville). Hawke was officially cast as Judy Luptack a year later, with Kerry Condon attached as Alice Van Laar, the mother of the missing girl. Additional cast members include Sterling Point's Ella Rubin, Stranger Things' Nell Fisher, Tracy Letts, John Gallagher Jr., and Benjamin Walker.
Netflix confirmed that production on The God of the Woods officially began in June 2026 in New York. That makes the series likely for a 2027 debut on the streaming service.
3 Lucia (TBD)
One of Hawke's next movies appears to be Lucia. The project was announced in 2025 as a psychological drama biopic about James Joyce and his daughter Lucia. It is poised to be directed by Aisling Walsh, based on a script by Michael Kinirons. Hawke is attached to play Lucia, while Rhys Ifans will play the famous Irish writer.
Lucia was announced as a package to be sold at Cannes 2025 by The Veterans, with it selling rights in France and Spain early. No additional deals were ever reported. As a result, Lucia is not known to have already filmed in secret, leaving it still in pre-production. It is still early days for this project, though, so there is reason to hope that the biopic will see the light of day sooner rather than later.
2 Wilder & Me (TBD)
Hawke is attached to the anticipated feature film adaptation of Jonathan Coe's 2020 novel, Mr Wilder and Me. The book follows Calista Frangopoulou, a young Greek musician who befriends Billy Wilder and serves as an interpreter on the set of his new film, Fedora. The success of the book led to director Stephen Frears and writer Christopher Hampton getting a movie adaptation in motion in 2022, with Christoph Waltz tapped to play Wilder.
It wasn't until early 2024 that Hawke joined the cast, landing the central role of Calista. Wilder & Me's cast also includes John Turturro as screenwriter I. A. L. Diamond and Jon Hamm as actor William Holden. Production was previously scheduled to begin in early 2025 in Greece, but that never came to pass.
Frears has since confirmed that it's been difficult to get financing (via Deadline), raising questions about whether Wilder & Me will ever get made. Filming has yet to begin, and it won't until studios come aboard the project.
1 Revolver (TBD)

Back in 2020, Maya was announced as a lead in a new coming-of-age romantic comedy called Revolver. The movie has Toy Story 5's Andrew Stanton on board to direct. Maya is meant to play a girl named Jane who plots a plan to lose her virginity to The Beatles' George Harrison when the band winds up staying in the same hotel as her and her father.
Revolver is meant to unite real-life daughter and father, as Ethan is also attached to play Jane's dad. Whether that dream becomes a reality remains to be seen. Ethan confirmed in a 2022 interview with The A.V. Club that the producers were still trying to raise enough money to make the film. He then cast more uncertainty over the project saying, "I don't even know what the status of it is."
Years later, Revolver remains in limbo. Stanton prioritized making Toy Story 5 for Pixar, while both Hawkes have pursued other ventures. It has yet to begin filming, and it is not set to do so anytime soon. Neither Ethan nor Maya Hawke has discussed the movie recently, which could mean Revolver never happens.
