Star Trek Is Officially Switching Genres In Star Trek: Warp Game

Though the Star Trek franchise has slowed down in recent years when it comes to both television and film adaptations (though there are still a couple of the former ongoing), it really does feel as though its as healthy as ever. Magic: The Gathering has another major collaboration on the way, bringing in some of the most iconic characters from across its most popular series.

At the same time, the world of video games continues to touch upon the classic sci-fi universe with regularity, with the most recent major effort being Star Trek: Resurgence, a game which really put the emphasis on player choice. Now, another major release tied to the IP is on the way soon, and it has a bunch of interesting stuff going for it that could make it one of the more exciting adaptations we've seen in recent years.

Monumental

Over on Steam, you should be able to find the store page for Star Trek: Warp, an upcoming card battler that draws on some of the more recognizable elements in series' history. In letting fans know a little about what they can expect from the game, the developer shared the following description with potential players.

"Warp speed, engaged! Star Trek: Warp is a card battler that combines deep gameplay, unique mechanics, and the joy of collecting and customizing powerful decks that feature characters and ships from across the Star Trek universe. Choose characters from a huge roster of Star Trek legends, heroes, and villains, and deploy them at iconic locations like Ten-Forward and the Warp Core.

"Build your deck around iconic starships like the U.S.S. Enterprise, I.K.S. Bortas, and many others. Ships determine your health, your deck size, and a unique set of abilities. So, choose wisely!"

The game is also set to feature multiple different modes depending on how you like to play. PvE will see different deck restrictions put in place against each foe, forcing you to strategize and change things around to compete. PvP will also be available at launch, with both Ranked and Casual options available, depending on how seriously you plan to take the whole thing.

The game features hundreds of cards with their own attributes and abilities, drawing on characters from across the Star Trek timeline, as well as the various alien races we meet along the way.

The only disappointing bit of news is that Star Trek: Warp doesn't have a release date just yet, with the Steam page currently only marked as "coming soon". If you can't wait to try it, though, there is a demo available on the store that will let you try out the main features as they currently stand at this stage in development.

Star Trek is one of pop culture's biggest multimedia franchises, spanning multiple movies, TV shows, books, comics, video games, and various other media. The franchise was created by Gene Roddenberry and started with the 1960s TV series starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy.
