Kid Rock Adds Lil Wayne to Christian Album, Moves Eminem to Different Song

Translate

Kid Rock has made a last-minute addition to his upcoming Christian music album, Halfway to Jesus, by tapping Lil Wayne.

The Young Money boss replaces Eminem on “7 Sins,” while Em now appears on a newly added song titled “Heal My Faith.” See the updated tracklist below.

In a social media video, Kid Rock explained that he wanted to bring together collaborators from different backgrounds.  “Not only the special guests — the musicians, the songwriters, the engineers, everybody involved in this record — we all don’t think the same,” he said. “Plenty of us think differently. All different backgrounds, everything, different politics. We’re able to come together and make this beautiful body of work that I’m so proud of.”

Kid Rock is a proud Donald Trump supporter, and Wayne has also endorsed the US president. Meanwhile, Eminem famously ripped Trump during a 2017 BET Hip-Hop Awards cypher, after which he claimed to have been questioned by the Secret Service.

The new statement echoes the album’s foreword, which was obtained by Complex earlier this month. “I’m proud of the guests who joined me, especially my old friend Eminem,” he wrote. “His verse speaks to something we’ve talked about and that really needs to be heard: we differ politically and on other things, but we’ve stayed friends through it all… We hope that sets an example for people who’ve lost friends or stopped talking to family because they think differently.”

It’s unclear whether Em’s verse from “7 Sins” was moved to “Heal My Faith” or whether the track features an entirely new one.

“7 Sins” is Kid Rock’s first collaboration with Wayne, but he has a history of working with Eminem. Kid Rock’s 1998 song “Fuck Off” featured a verse from Eminem, while Kid Rock returned the favor by appearing in the video for Em’s “Berzerk” in 2013.

Halfway to Jesus is set for release on Saturday, October 17th.
