Sydney Sweeney has a major sci-fi thriller coming to streaming soon.

Sweeney has starred in many movies of diverse genres over the years. Following the actress' key turn in popular HBO TV shows, such as Euphoria and The White Lotus, Sweeney has since taken over the big screen. Her list of movies includes many different genres, though multiple thrillers can be found within Sweeney's silver screen adventures. Those include the R-rated erotic thriller The Voyeurs when it comes to streaming, and the R-rated psychological thriller The Housemaid when the subject is box office hits. Sweeney has also starred in a superhero movie.

Sweeney's Madame Web Is Swinging To HBO Max In November

Sweeney's Madame Web will be released on HBO Max on November 14. This will continue a streak of Sweeney movies on the streaming service that also includes her biggest TV show roles to date. After all, Sweeney was a key player in HBO Max's October 2026 arrivals. The month saw the release of two of Sweeney's most popular movies on the streaming service, both of them R-rated. On October 9, the psychological thriller The Housemaid came to the streamer ahead of its sequel, The Housemaid's Secret, which arrives in theaters on December 17, 2027. That movie has already entered production.

The other R-rated Sweeney to arrive on HBO Max in October was the Glen Powell rom-com Anyone but You, which dropped on the streamer on October 20. As for Madame Web, the movie is part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe, the studio's own Marvel franchise, which has since been scrapped after failing to launch another hit series beyond Tom Hardy's Venom movie trilogy. Madame Web ended up with only $100.5 million at the box office. The sci-fi thriller focuses on Dakota Johnson's Cassandra Webb, who possesses the power to see the future, as she protects future Spider-Women, including Sweeney's Julia Cornwall, from a Spider-Man-like killer.

Will Sweeney Ever Return To The Marvel World?

At the time of writing, there are no signs that Sweeney is any closer to returning to a movie based on Marvel characters. Given how Madame Web had a reported budget of $80 million, the low end of its projection to break even was set at $160 million, and Madame Web failed to even reach that target. As such, even if Sony had not scrapped its SSU, a Madame Web sequel was unlikely to ever be made. Sweeney did wear a superhero suit as Julia at the very end of the movie, but that development will be reserved for a sequel that should never get made.

That said, Sweeney has a chance of joining another live-action franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Given how 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars will serve as a reboot of sorts for the MCU, there should be plenty of major roles up for grabs in the next few years, including many X-Men and mutant characters. As one of the most popular stars of her generation, chances are good that Sweeney might sit down with Marvel to discuss a role or two, following her Euphoria co-star Zendaya to the shared universe. However, as far as reprising her Madame Web role in the MCU goes, that is unlikely.
