‘Day Drinker’ Trailer: Johnny Depp’s Hollywood Comeback Continues in a Twisty Thriller With Penélope Cruz and Madelyn Cline

Lionsgate has released a trailer for “Day Drinker,” the Marc Webb-directed thriller starring Johnny Depp, Madelyn Cline and Penélope Cruz. The film will hit theaters on March 26, 2027.

“Day Drinker” follows a private-yacht bartender (Cline) as she encounters a mysterious guest (Depp in extra-weird mode). The official logline adds: “They soon find themselves entangled with a criminal figure (Cruz) and connected in ways no one saw coming.”

In the eerie trailer, audiences get a glimpse of a grey-haired Depp, who says, ominously: “My story? Perhaps it’s a tale of revenge. Or perhaps something worse. What if all of this is a ghost story? Or maybe I’m just another day drinker?”

The film will be one of the first Hollywood-supported movies to bring Depp back to the big screen after his 2022 trial against ex-wife Amber Heard; his other film, Paramount’s “Ebenezer,” will be in theaters on Nov. 13. “Day Drinker” also brings Cruz back to the Hollywood studio system after dominating 2026 with a slew if well-reviewed indie productions, including “La Bola Negra,” “The Invite” and “Bunker.”

“Day Drinker” is Cline’s first project since wrapping “Outer Banks,” the North Carolina-set Netflix show that made her a star as series regular Sarah Cameron. Season 1 premiered in 2020, and the show concluded with Season 5 in August.
