FM reaffirms Cairo’s legal position on Turkish-Libyan maritime MoU

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s established legal position on the Turkish-Libyan maritime memorandum of understanding during a meeting on Saturday, November 7, 2026, with Libya’s Acting Foreign Minister Taher al Baour.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of taking Egypt’s concerns into account regarding maritime boundary delimitation, in light of the brotherly ties between the two countries and in accordance with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, in a manner that serves their shared interests.
The meeting also addressed ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the economic, trade and energy sectors.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Nader Zaki said Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm support for a political solution in Libya through an inclusive dialogue owned and led entirely by Libyans, based on broad national consensus and free from external dictates or interference, in a way that serves the interests of the Libyan people and preserves stability.
Abdelatty underscored Egypt’s keenness to further strengthen bilateral relations and build on their recent momentum. He also highlighted the importance of holding the next session of the joint higher committee to advance cooperation across various fields.
He further stressed the need to provide additional facilities for Egyptian students in Libya and improve arrangements for the Egyptian community residing there.
For his part, al Baour expressed his deep appreciation for the close ties between the two countries, praising the significant progress in bilateral relations.
He said Libya looks forward to benefiting from Egyptian expertise in various fields and supporting efforts to boost the Libyan economy, while commending the contributions of the Egyptian community and Egyptian companies operating in Libya.
