Wallace says migration policy will be revealed today

By Joshua Boscaini

Liberal MP Andrew Wallace says the Coalition's migration policy will be targeted to ensure the right number of people enter the country.

The Coalition will announce its long-awaited migration policy today, weeks after Labor and One Nation announced there policy.

Two newspapers are reporting the Coalition will seek to cut the migration number to 100,000 in its first year of government before capping it to housing completions.

Asked on Channel Nine if the policy has been modelled for the impact to the Australian economy, Wallace says that will be revealed today.

"You can't just slash immigration altogether. We've got to ensure that our farmers and our key industries have the right skills to be able to keep the country moving, and that's what we'll be focused on," Wallace says.

Hello and welcome to our federal politics live blog! It's great to have you join again for another day of politics news.

I'm Josh Boscaini joining you live from Parliament House in Canberra, here and ready to bring you all of the day's politics shenanigans.

We're expecting the Coalition to release details of its highly anticipated migration policy today following a party room meeting this morning.

It comes after One Nation and Labor released their plan to reduce net overseas migration just a few weeks ago.

And the pre-COP meeting is still underway in the Pacific today, with leaders expected to visit Tuvalu.
