Former Ryt Bank CEO joins Bank Islam as tech, transformation chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd has appointed Melvin Ooi as group chief technology and transformation officer.
Prior to joining Bank Islam, Melvin served as chief executive officer (CEO) of Ryt Bank where he helped establish and develop one of Malaysia's newest digital banking platforms.
Bank Islam CEO Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz said technology transformation must translate into simpler customer journeys, better service, stronger execution and a more responsive organisation.
"Melvin's appointment strengthens the leadership and execution capabilities supporting this agenda.
"His experience across digital banking, payments and technology-driven businesses complements Bank Islam's institutional strengths as we continue modernising our platforms, enhancing customer experiences and building a future-ready organisation."
She added that the bank's priority is to apply technology responsibly and with discipline, while preserving the trust, resilience and Shariah principles.
"Through responsible innovation and operational excellence, we remain focused on creating long-term value for customers, communities and stakeholders," she said in a statement.
Ooi brings more than 24 years of leadership experience spanning digital banking, fintech, payments, customer loyalty and financial services across Asia and Australia.
He previously held senior positions at BonusKad Loyalty, Alipay, American Express and Maybank, where he led initiatives in digital transformation, payments innovation, customer growth and strategic partnerships.
Under his new role, Ooi will lead the execution of Bank Islam's enterprise-wide technology and transformation agenda.
"My focus will be on working closely with colleagues across the organisation to modernise technology capabilities, strengthen the use of data, improve customer experiences and support the delivery of meaningful outcomes for our customers and stakeholders.
