Mike Sonko’s Daughter Saumu Mbuvi Joins Politics, Eyes Nairobi County Woman Rep Race

Saumu Mbuvi, the daughter of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, has formally launched her bid for the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat on a National Economic Development Party (NEDP) ticket.

Declaring her candidacy on Monday, September 21, 2026, Mbuvi framed her entry into competitive politics as a commitment to public service and community advocacy, promising to focus on expanding economic opportunities for women, youth, and vulnerable households across the capital.

“I am not stepping forward because leadership is a title. I am stepping forward because leadership is a responsibility, a covenant with the people, and an opportunity to turn lived realities into meaningful action,” Mbuvi stated during her announcement.

Campaigning under the slogan “A New Voice for a Brighter Nairobi,” Mbuvi outlined four main policy priorities: education and skills development, job creation and enterprise, health and wellbeing, and urban safety. She highlighted youth unemployment and insufficient social safety nets as critical challenges facing Nairobi residents, pledging to support local women entrepreneurs and establish structured pathways toward youth employment.

“My vision is to contribute to a Nairobi where representation translates into results,” she added, emphasizing that young people must be actively involved in civic decision-making processes.

Mbuvi’s entry adds momentum to the expanding field of aspirants seeking elective positions across Nairobi County ahead of the 2027 General Election.
