Rashee Rice just filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, and radio host Craig Carton wants to know where his Chiefs teammates have been. On Friday, Carton aimed his anger at Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the rest of Kansas City's wealthy core. Rice listed $3.45 million in debts against $677,054 in assets. Carton says nobody owes the receiver a check. His point is simpler. A real friend would have done more than wear a T-shirt. The Chiefs have not responded as of Friday.
What Rashee Rice's bankruptcy filing reveals about his finances
Rice filed Wednesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas. He is 26 and in the last year of a four-year, $6.5 million rookie deal. His paperwork shows $32,640 in monthly take-home pay against $29,030 in expenses, which leaves about $3,610.
The biggest debt traces back to the March 30, 2024, crash on U.S. 75 in Dallas. Rice was driving a Lamborghini Urus at 119 mph in a six-vehicle wreck. He pleaded guilty in July 2025 to two third-degree felonies and received five years' probation and 30 days in jail. Kathryn Kuykendall, who was hurt in the crash, is owed $979,837, the unpaid balance of a $1 million settlement.
His Super Bowl LVIII ring, valued at $160,000, is listed as collateral for $185,226.45 owed to attorney Thomas McMurray. He also lists a disputed $200,000 claim from ex-girlfriend Dacoda Jones, who sued him this year alleging assault. Rice has denied it through his attorney.
Why Craig Carton questions Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce
Carton did not hide his frustration. "I feel bad for Rashee Rice. I'm not one of these guys who gloats and likes watching the financial downfall of athletes. But it p*sses me off because he is surrounded by multimillionaires, guys we're constantly told are like family to him, that are brothers to him,"
He pointed to moments of public support. In September 2025, Kelce, Tyquan Thornton and Hollywood Brown wore "Free 4" shirts with Rice's image while he served a six-game suspension. That October, Mahomes posted Rice's "#EGE" catchphrase on X.
Carton wanted more. "Think about how humbling it is to have to put your Super Bowl ring up, or the $160,000, so you can afford to pay your lawyer. And not a single player in that locker room said, ‘Don't do that. I got you.'"
Neither Mahomes nor Kelce has addressed the comments. Rice practiced fully Thursday after missing two games with a hamstring injury, and the Chiefs host the Jets this weekend. Whether the locker room answers Carton's challenge may show up in what happens next, not in what anyone says.
