Hannah Waddingham addresses the cancellation and potential future of Ride or Die.
The Prime Video action-comedy series features Waddingham as international assassin Judith Burton as she goes on the run with her best friend, Debbie Claybourne (Octavia Spencer). Despite being the streamer's number one show globally for three consecutive weeks and receiving a 96% critics' score and 84% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, Ride or Die was canceled after one season. However, Paramount Television Studios is reportedly looking for a new buyer to continue the series.
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Waddingham was asked if she had any updates on Ride or Die finding a new home. She replied, "I don't know. I have no idea. I'm happy with what I did on it, to be honest. It was doing 85%, 90% of your own stunts. It's gonna make a girl a little tired. But I'm very happy with the project."
Waddingham also shared that the dress she was wearing during this interview "actually is from Ride or Die. And I thought I'd give her another outing because I like to reuse. And I designed it myself and I made sure that I could wear it for several shoot days, be stabbed in it... I thought the show's gone, the dress remains." Check out her full response below:
Waddingham's reaction comes a few eeks after the news broke and Spencer responded to the Prime Video cancellation. Both stars have primarily emphasized how grateful they were to be part of the series, along with how satisfied they are by their work in it. This includes the physical demands of Waddingham doing nearly all of her own stunts, despite this being a major departure from Ted Lasso and her other usual projects.
Ride or Die does resolve the main conflict of the season and provides closure to the issues that had formed in Judith and Debbie's close friendship, as what Judith does for a living was a secret before the events of the series exposed the truth. The finale does set up a couple of directions for the story to go next, though, including a new beginning for Judith and Debbie, a dilemma involving assassin handler Sam (Calam Lynch) and weapons specialist Queenie (Savannah Steyn), and The Director (Bill Nighy) and his assassin organization still active.
In ScreenRant's Ride or Die review, Dani Kessel Odom gave the show seven out of 10 stars and praised the central relationship between Judith and Debbie: "Their relationship feels lived-in, with inside jokes and a deep platonic love that’s stronger than any romantic possibility... Spencer and Waddingham’s connection is the lifeblood of" the show.
The positive reviews and high viewership made the cancellation surprising, and while an official reason has not been given by Prime Video, it comes as the streamer prioritizes young adult shows, with the likes of Elle, Off Campus, Every Year After, and Sterling Point all being renewed for second seasons. In its first two days, Ride or Die even outperformed Elle, Off Campus, and Every Year After, according to Deadline. The action-comedy was also Prime Video's most-watched new scripted series in the U.S. that was released between July 30, 2025, and July 29, 2026.

There is still a chance that another streaming platform will pick up Ride or Die for season 2 via Paramount Television Studios, although there is no guarantee. The series was created by Tessa Coates, with Matt Miller serving as the showrunner. Both Coates and Miller were executive producers alongside Waddingham and Spencer, who were part of the main cast in addition to Lynch, Steyn, Nighy, Ed Skrein, Jamie Parker, Sylvia Hoeks, and Jacky Ido, while Cathy Tyson, Camille Chamoux, and Kathryn Drysdale played recurring roles.
All episodes of Ride or Die are streaming on Prime Video.
