Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan Team Up for ‘Expectations’ Remix and Music Video

Translate

Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan are officially teaming up on an “Expectations” remix and music video.

Rodrigo confirmed the news on Instagram Tuesday, sharing a photo of her and Roan posing on a yellow car with the license plate “XPECT8NS.” The uptempo song is the 12th track on Rodrigo’s recent third album, “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.”

“Beyond excited to announce ‘expectations’ featuring Chappell Roan!!! song and video out Thursday!!!!” Rodrigo wrote in the caption.

Rumors of an “Expectations” remix started circulating on Sunday after a German retailer put the single on sale, then quickly took it down. The next day, Rodrigo posted a quick audio clip to her Instagram story of a female voice saying, “Ooh, Olivia does remixes now,” which some fans suspected was Roan.

Rodrigo and Roan go back some years, as the latter supported the former on both her “Sour” and “Guts” tours. Beyond sharing the stage, they also consistently collaborated with the same producer, Dan Nigro, and have connective tissue as respective winners of the Grammy for best new artist.

Roan recently graced the stage at Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields Festival, which took place in Irvine, California, in late August. Rodrigo personally curated the all-female lineup for the inaugural event including Doechii, Mitski, Garbage, the Breeders and many more. Roan performed just before Rodrigo’s headlining set, which featured guest appearances from Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette and Stevie Nicks. Daisy Chain Fields raised $10 million that was then matched by philanthropist Melinda French Gates to bring the total to $20 million.

Roan is staging her own two-day fundraiser in Los Angeles on October 21-22 to benefit trans youth and LGBTQ+ communities. The event, taking place at the Shrine, will have performances from Lola Young, Caroline Polachek, Tinashe and Muna.

Rodrigo, meanwhile, is currently on her “Unraveled” tour in support of “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.” The trek is currently making its way across North America before heading overseas in March for dates in London, Barcelona and Amsterdam, among other cities.
