Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has announced plans to establish a military base in communities affected by recent bandit attacks in Bagudo Local Government Area to strengthen security and facilitate the return of displaced residents.

The governor announced the plan on Saturday during a condolence visit to the District Head of Kaoje, Alhaji Mustapha Adamu, following attacks that claimed the lives of the Village Head of Lafagu and other residents.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists.

Idris said the establishment of the military base was part of measures being taken by his administration to provide a stronger security presence in the affected communities and prevent further attacks.

The governor said, “We have concluded arrangements to establish a military base in the affected communities to strengthen security and protect our people.”

He added, “I am not going to relent in ensuring that my people are protected. My government is working hard with the security agencies to ensure that the internally displaced persons return safely to their villages.”

Idris said his administration was working with security agencies to track down those responsible for the attacks and restore normalcy to the affected communities.

He also visited camps housing residents displaced by the attacks, where he assured the victims that the government would continue to support them until they could safely return to their ancestral homes.

“I am not going to tolerate these barbaric acts. Insha Allah, the government is doing everything possible to protect the lives of our people. I will continue to support you and ensure that everyone returns safely to their villages,” he said.

The governor urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel by providing credible information about suspicious persons and activities.

He also cautioned residents against resorting to self-help or taking the law into their own hands, assuring them that the government would continue to work with security agencies towards a lasting solution to the security challenges.

The District Head of Kaoje, Adamu, thanked the governor for visiting the affected community and for taking steps to address the insecurity.

He condemned the attacks as “un-Islamic and inhuman” and lauded the governor and his entourage for standing with the affected residents during the crisis.
