The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time means different things to different people. For some, it's one of the greatest games ever made. For others, it's the best game on the 3DS, citing the portable remake as the best version. For others, the Master Quest is the true cherry on top, the alternate mode that remixes dungeons and pays homage to the "Second Quest" challenge mode from the NES original.
In any case, Ocarina of Time has gone through several iterations in the past few decades, including a Switch 2 version that completely reimagines the visuals from the ground up. Not everyone agrees on which edition is best, either. Case in point: on Reddit, fans are furiously debating what awaits them in the remake.
Discussing the potential for a new Master Quest on Switch 2, One fan is hopeful: "I feel like there is a strong possibility, but I sincerely hope that if they do implement a master quest it is a little more creative than the first one. The OG masterquest feels like a fan made remake and not something that would come from a professional game making cooperation IMO."
A single user isn't so sure it'll make it in: "I'm not sure about a Master Quest. They'd have to change around a lot of the original enemy placements and for some reason, this one feels more... fixed than OG OoT. I know that's a big assumption coming from a trailer, but it feels like they put a lot of attention on having things a certain way. They might add a boss rush, or even a gauntlet type mini game similar to Cave of Shadows from Twilight Princess. And how would NG+ even work in this type of game? We get the items in a specific order that is important to story progression. Maybe Hero Mode?"
One fan reminisces about how fun Master Quest was: "I always loved master quest because it throws a lot tougher enemies at you, and it makes dungeons feel completely different with how the puzzles are remixed and the progression between rooms is in a different order. I like to alternate between the 2 modes."
Alternating (among other mods fans use to randomize the game) is a perfect way to approach Ocarina of Time long term, and people have been doing it for decades, ever since Master Quest became a thing. It's a wonderful optional mode that helped give Ocarina of Time a little more life for hardcore fans who had already played the original often.
Master Quest isn't the only thing fans are curious about: "There's also no confirmation if Sheikah Stones and Boss Rush from 3DS remake will be included or not. I remember that the 3DS MQ was announced one month before the remake's release."
Only a few weeks remain before we see what The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has in store for us. Hopefully, it'll keep us busy as long as the original Nintendo 64 version has.
