NWPC affirms P42 minimum wage hike in Central Visayas

MANILA, Philippines — The P42-minimum wage increase for private sector workers in Central Visayas was affirmed by the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC).

This was confirmed by Labor Secretary and NWPC Chairperson Francis Tolentino at the commission’s deliberation, which was held at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office VII in Cebu last Saturday.

The decision was made by five commissioners present, affirming the new wage order issued by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board.

The order is expected to increase the minimum wage for workers in private establishments to P582 in Class A areas and P542 in Class B areas.

The action, the DOLE said, is in accordance with Sections 1 and 4, Rule IV of NWPC Guidelines No. 03, Series of 2020, as amended, which provide for the submission and review of Wage Orders by the Commission.

“Upon affirmation, the concerned Regional Board proceeds with the publication of the Wage Order pursuant to the prescribed rules,” it said.

The new wage rates are expected to take effect on October 14, 2026, following the required publication period. /gsg
