Martin Clunes' "classic" British drama with Inbetweeners star lands new UK streaming home

Translate

Martin Clunes' new film Mother's Pride is finally available with a streaming subscription after its cinema run and digital buy/rent release, having been added to both Sky and NOW Cinema yesterday.

The film follows a grieving family who run a struggling pub, who start brewing their own real ale and entering the Great British Beer Awards competition in an attempt to turn things around.

It's a typical feel-good British film, that also highlights how much hospitality is struggling in the current economic climate.

The rest of the cast includes The Inbetweeners' James Buckley, Game of Thrones' Mark Addy, The Thick of It's Miles Jupp, A Street Cat Named Bob's Luke Treadaway, Better Man's Jonno Davies, and Poldark's Gabriella Wilde.

Behind the camera is director Nick Moorcroft, who wrote both Fisherman's Friends movies and helmed the second one.

When the film came out, it made an impressive £707,500 at the UK box office in its opening.

There aren't many critic reviews of the film, but given its crowd-pleasing nature, it's done well in terms of user reviews.

"Straight-forward but sincere tale of a pub on life support. Bastioned by a more than capable cast who all give solid performances. Treading some familiar waters but mother can take pride in knowing that her story was told respectfully," wrote one fan on Rotten Tomatoes.

"Genuinely, not bad. You can't expect miracles when you see the cast lineup, but you know it's going to be a solid performance," said another. "Don't expect thrills and spills, but a wholesome, heartfelt script, makes for enjoyable viewing with your loved ones."

Over on Letterboxd, one fan said: "Sometimes it's just nice to watch a film that cheers you up, and makes you laugh, and this was just that!"

"A mix of funny and heart warming. Just a classic British film," reads another write-up, while a further fan called it "a perfect Sunday afternoon matinee".

Mother's Pride can be streamed now on Sky and NOW Cinema.
