Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government and MRT Jakarta target to complete the full revitalization of South Jakarta's Blok M area by 2029 to create a modern, integrated transit area.

"We are carrying out the revitalization in phases. We are targeting the terminal, retail area, and podium to be completed and will be operated in 2029," MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat said here on Tuesday.

Tuhiyat added the mixed-use area, a multifunctional building or area that combines more than one urban function or activity, will also be built in stages and is targeted for completion in 2030.

"Meanwhile, for the mixed-use area, completion will come in stages in the following year," he added.

The first phase of the revitalization is the terminal, to be a modern and integrated terminal. The next phase is the development of the Blok M-ASEAN mixed-use area, directed toward becoming an accessible, inclusive, and dynamic area.

The transformation also includes improving the accessibility and integration of the area, so that it is better connected, both between transport modes and between functions, while making it easier for pedestrians to get around.

In addition, the area will be developed as a new commercial destination offering a variety of retail, food and beverage, lifestyle, and public space options in one area.

The final transformation is the development of greener, more active, and more comfortable public open spaces to support social interaction and various community activities.

The transformation will take into account the condition of the Blok M building, which is now 34 years old.

MRT Jakarta will ensure the safety and security of the building's structure are maintained.

Meanwhile, the Blok M Hub area is currently still home to 334 active tenants, with more than 25,000 visitors every day.
