Two police officers detained over defilement of 3-year-old girl
A Meru court has allowed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to detain two police officers accused of defiling a 3-year-old girl for two weeks to allow for further investigations.
The suspects who are based in Imenti Central were arraigned before Githongo Senior Principal Magistrate Nafuna Sarapai on Monday.
Magistrate Sarapai directed that the suspects be presented in court on October 26, 2026 for plea taking.
According to a police report, the suspects were arrested after the mother of the alleged victim reported the incident to Githongo Police Station on Friday last week.
"According to the child's account, she was playing outside when a person known to her as 'Baba' allegedly carried her on his shoulder to his house, removed her trousers and defiled her..." the police report states.
The girl is said to have been set free after she cried out in pain.
"On the same day, the child was taken to Nairobi Women's Hospital, Meru branch, for medical examination, and a P3 form filled... According to the attending doctor, the findings were consistent with defilement," the police report further states.
The police report also states that the two suspects were positively identified by the minor in a parade.
"The child identified the house, as well as another house associated with the person she knew as 'Baba', which she identified in connection with the alleged incident. A search was conducted at the identified house, during which two bedsheets, one blue and the other white, were recovered and secured as exhibits," investigators said.
The two suspects were arrested on Sunday following an identification parade.
