  • Shoppers crowd the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store branch on Taipei’s Nanjing W Road yesterday, during the first day of the firm’s anniversary sale. The company estimated that first-day sales at its six branches nationwide could reach NT$1.55 billion (US$48.7 million) and expects the event, which runs through Oct. 12, to generate NT$19.4 billion in total revenue, up 3 percent from last year.
