Some schedule quirks look harmless on paper. Then a quarterback's wife spots one and the internet starts counting days. Kelly Stafford did that this week, and her math has Los Angeles Rams fans nodding along. The Rams sit at 4-4, they face nearly 35,000 travel miles this season, and their long-awaited bye week comes with a catch. Matthew Stafford is also nursing a sore right elbow, which makes every rest day matter more. So what did the NFL put on the Rams' calendar, and why is Kelly so confused? Let us break it down.
Kelly Stafford Calls Out The NFL Over The Los Angeles Rams Bye Week
Kelly did not hold back on her Instagram story.
"I had to take a second off my workout because I keep getting updates and alerts like, 'Oh, after the bye week they'll be back, after the bye week he'll be healthy.' Not for the Rams, though, because they didn't get a bye week," said Kelly in her Instagram story. "And if you're new to the NFL, a bye week is when they have the week off, so they play Sunday, then they don't play the next Sunday, then they play the Sunday after that. So it's a lot of time. It's good. It's good for teams, right? They can get people back who are injured. I'm confused on how we forgot to give us a bye week. I mean, if you guys want to go look at the schedule and show me where there is a bye week, where there are 14 days in between games, I'd be ecstatic, but it doesn't exist. Thanks, NFL."
Salute to Service Every week, @RamsNFL QB Matthew Stafford has a tradition where he greets his four daughters on the sidelines before the game. Today was different! He and his wife Kelly purchased a luxury box for military veterans! He took the time to shake every single one of their hands before the game! His daughters all wore jackets that said “thank you” Cool moment! #abc7eyewitness #RamsHouse #NFL #SaluteToService #Military

Her complaint is not that the bye is missing. Los Angeles has one in Week 11. The problem is what surrounds it. The Rams play the Arizona Cardinals on November 15, then host the Green Bay Packers on Wednesday, November 25. That leaves nine full days between games, not the usual 13.
Why Matthew Stafford and The Los Angeles Rams Need Every Recovery Day
The NFL's labor agreement requires three days off between games. Because both teams share a Week 11 bye, neither could play Sunday, November 22 and then again midweek. So the league created a Thanksgiving Eve kickoff.
That works well for television. It works less well for tired bodies.
Matthew Stafford walked out of the locker room after the 24-9 win over the Los Angeles Chargers with ice on his right elbow. Head coach Sean McVay mentioned soreness in the arm afterward. Stafford has not missed a snap this season, but a short turnaround gives an aching elbow little time to settle.
Away from the schedule debate, the Staffords showed another side on November 1. Matthew and Kelly reportedly bought a suite for military veterans, and Matthew greeted each guest in person.
For now, the Rams must stay healthy and hope the calendar eases up.
