FLP to honor law scholars, MBA fellows, dissertation writing winners

MANILA, Philippines — The Foundation for Liberty & Prosperity (FLP) will celebrate the newest recipients of its academic awards on Sept. 16 at the Manila Polo Club, with First Lady Liza Marcos as special guest and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Eli Remolona Jr. as guest speaker.

The ceremony will bring together awardees from three FLP education programs – 20 law scholars who will each receive P250,000; five Master of Business Administration fellows in entrepreneurship, sustainability, management, economics and business law (ESMEL) who will each receive P500,000, and the 11 winners and finalists of the Dissertation Writing Contest, with prizes totaling P1.3 million.

Awardees will be presented with certificates, plaques, cash grants and other prizes by the First Lady, retired chief justice Artemio Panganiban as FLP chairman and the heads of the respective boards of judges.

The annual recognition program reflects FLP’s commitment to supporting students who combine academic distinction with a demonstrated commitment to the foundation’s ideals and who show promise in carrying those principles into their chosen professions.

Law scholars

In partnership with the Tan Yan Kee Foundation, FLP will extend P250,000 scholarships to 10 fourth year law students and 10 third-year law students. The third year scholars are Franz Arcamo (USC), Krislen Bismonte (UST), Kevin Francisco (FEU), Lourdes Galeon (USC), Angel Letrondo (USC), Rafael Maliwanag (UP), Robert Marcos (University of Southeastern Philippines), Beatrice Puente (UP), Maroel San Pedro (UP) and Justine Sarsuelo (DLSU).

The fourth-year law scholars will receive the same P250,000 grants. They are Althea Acidre (Dr. V. Orestes Romualdez Educational Foundation), Dannielle Caliosan (University of Southeastern Philippines), Jan Davocol (ADMU), Kim Humarang (UST), Alyannah Mabelin (UC), Lia Manalo (UP), Joselino Poquiz (ADMU), Myka Reambonanza (USC), Brian Unabia (USC) and Michelle Vergara (USC).

Three scholars who took last year’s Bar examinations placed among the top 20: Enrico Paguia of ADMU ranked 6th, Ignacio Villareal of UP, 15th and Chinzen Viernes of UP, 19th.

The law scholars were selected by a board chaired by Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, with Solicitor General Darlene Marie Berberabe, dean Jose Grapilon, Evelyn Abao and FLP corporate secretary Joel Gregorio as members.

MBA fellows

In partnership with Metro Pacific Investments Corp. through the Metro Pacific Investments Foundation, FLP will award P500,000 fellowship grants to Cindy Alteros (AIM), Mary Beltran (AIM), Ingrid Lazo (ADMU), Amity Lim (ADMU) and Stephanie Suarez (UP).

The ESMEL fellows were chosen by a board led by former BSP governor Amando Tetangco Jr., together with Chaye Cabal-Revilla, Monette Iturralde Hamlin, Marilen Yaptangco and Joel Gregorio.

Dissertation writing contest winners

FLP, in partnership with Ayala Corp., will also recognize the awardees of its Dissertation Writing program. Roberto Bedonia (UP Iloilo Extension) will receive the P320,000 first prize, while Therese Germinanda (West Visayas State University) will receive the P220,000 second prize.

The third place awardees, each to receive P120,000, are Joshua Tambor (UV), Edeleine Reyes (De La Salle Lipa) and Mel Castro (USC). The five winning dissertations are available at www.libpros.com.

Finalist awards of P20,000 each will be given to Aaron Lagmay (FEU), Charmaine Candaroma (San Sebastian College-Recoletos), Diadem Lanayon (FEU), Charles Rey (ADMU), Hannah Carmona (FEU) and Joerome Rimorin (FEU).

The dissertation winners were evaluated by a board headed by SC Justice Henri Jean Paul Inting, with Court of Tax Appeals Justice Ivy Reyes-Fajardo, Ayala Corp. chief legal officer Franchette Acosta, dean Anna Maria Abad and Joel Gregorio.
