Premier League predictions this weekend – Matchweek 6

Translate

Good things come to those who wait and Premier League fans have been very patient.

The three-week international break has felt like an eternity, but it's over now and the best league in the world can resume once again.

The top flight is back with a bang, with Arsenal v Leeds, Man Utd v Tottenham and Liverpool v Man City, which is the latter's first game since the ruling, and thus the pick of the fixtures.

This week, Radio Times Sport Lead Ned Holmes presents his Premier League predictions, including a selection for Upset of the Week, because football isn't played on paper after all.

How many picks will he get right in Matchweek 6?

Saturday 10 October

Arsenal v Leeds (12:30pm) TNT Sports 1 / TNT Sports Ultimate / HBO Max

NH: 3-1 win. The international break came at a good time for the Gunners, who looked shell-shocked in their 3-0 hammering at the hands of Brighton. They've had three weeks for the panic to clear and, though injuries won't help, should be back to their best against an impressive Leeds side, who will land a few punches but fall to their first defeat.

Aston Villa v Brentford (3pm) Not televised

NH: 2-0 Brentford win. I believe in the Bees. What Keith Andrews has done at the West London club has been fantastic and another win could be coming away at an Aston Villa side that are still feeling out their new identity after a chaotic summer.

Chelsea v Bournemouth (3pm) Not televised

NH: 2-1 Chelsea win. It's a crying shame that this one hasn't been picked for TV as it looks set to be an entertaining clash. Chelsea should return to form going forward, while the injury to Alex Scott is a bigger blow for the Cherries than many realise and could cost them here.

Ipswich v Fulham (3pm) Not televised

NH: 1-1 draw. Is it too early to call this one a relegation six-pointer? It's fair to assume both clubs are going to be battling the drop this season and picking which is more likely to stay up could be tough after a close-fought draw at Portman Road.

Sunderland v Brighton (3pm) Not televised

NH: 2-0 Brighton win. The Seagulls will not have wanted the international break to come after their 3-0 thumping of Arsenal but it may help them get all three points at the Stadium of Light as the hosts are set to be without star striker Brian Brobbey and key centre-back Dan Ballard.

Man Utd v Tottenham (5:30pm) Sky Sports Main Event / Sky Sports Premier League / Sky Sports Ultra HD

NH: 2-2 draw. Two of the Premier League's underperforming big clubs meet at Old Trafford in what is sure to be a game packed with thrills and spills. Both managers are desperate for a win that could kick-start their season but neither will get it in a high-scoring draw.

Sunday 11 October

Crystal Palace v Nottingham Forest (2pm) Sky Sports Main Event / Sky Sports Ultra HD

NH: 1-0 Nottingham Forest win. Oliver Glasner will be desperate not to lose on his return to Selhurst Park and you'd back the Austrian to get what he wants after three weeks to come up with a tactical plan. Neither side have an issue with going direct, which should make for a good watch.

Hull v Everton (2pm) Sky Sports Premier League

NH: 0-0 draw. Two of the Premier League's meanest defences face off on Sunday. Both managers deserve plenty of credit for their structured defensive systems but that might not make for much entertainment at the MKM Stadium.

Liverpool v Man City (4:30pm) Sky Sports Main Event / Sky Sports Premier League / Sky Sports Ultra HD

NH: 3-1 Man City win. Talk about drama. The Premier League gods have blessed us as Man City's first game after the ruling is a trip to Anfield. This is going to go one of two ways. Either Man City will crumble under everything going on or they'll come out with a defiant display – and I'm backing the latter.

Monday 12 October

Coventry v Newcastle (8pm) Sky Sports Main Event / Sky Sports Premier League / Sky Sports Ultra HD

NH: 1-0 Coventry win. UPSET OF THE WEEK. Though Newcastle look to have found their groove under Matthias Jaissle, you cannot underestimate the importance of Coventry's first Premier League win in nearly three decades. The CBS Arena is going to be bouncing on Monday night and the Sky Blues may just make it two in two.
