Indonesia and Egypt have agreed to several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) during a bilateral meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, covering areas including diplomatic affairs, marine affairs, and fisheries.

At a joint statement at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday, Prabowo and El-Sisi witnessed Indonesian Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty sign an MoU on the Strategic Partnership Action Plan.

"Following the very intensive and productive discussions we have held, I believe Your Excellency’s visit will mark an important milestone in strengthening our partnership," Prabowo said.

The two presidents also witnessed the signing of MoUs on Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic, Service, and Special Passports, and on Statistics.

Additionally, Indonesian Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty also presented the signed memorandum of understanding on maritime affairs and fisheries.

The two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation oriented towards sustainable development, marine resource conservation, eradication of illegal fishing, and exchange of knowledge and expertise.

On the occasion, Prabowo welcomed the growing cooperation between the two countries and expressed his intention to improve their ties to a strategic partnership.

He also drew attention to several areas of cooperation to be enhanced in the economic, political, defense, and educational sectors.

Beyond bilateral cooperation, Prabowo and El-Sisi discussed regional and global developments, including the situation in Palestine and the broader Middle East conflict.

Prabowo reaffirmed the two countries’ support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and their commitment to pursuing peace through a two-state solution.

President Prabowo received a visit from President El-Sisi at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday afternoon.

El-Sisi's visit to Indonesia follows Prabowo's visits to Egypt in 2024 and 2025. Indonesia is the last stop on El-Sisi's Asian itinerary, after South Korea on October 6-9 and Malaysia on October 9-10, 2026.
