Prabowo optimistic Indonesia to emerge stronger, more self-reliant

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed optimism Indonesia will emerge as a stronger and more self-reliant nation as he attended the 35th Congress of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in Jombang, East Java, on Thursday.

Speaking at the event, Prabowo said Indonesia is currently facing a number of major challenges, including the impact of the El Nino climate phenomenon, compounded by the country's geographical conditions as an archipelago.

Nevertheless, Indonesia's abundant natural resources and energy potential provide a strong foundation for the country's development and resurgence.

"Believe me, in the next few years, Indonesia will rise extraordinarily and no one will be able to stop us," Prabowo said.

He highlighted a number of achievements, including Indonesia's success in achieving food self-sufficiency within two years. The country is now working toward energy self-reliance to reduce its dependence on imported fuel, Prabowo added.

Prabowo also highlighted Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, which he said has reached 62 million beneficiaries across Indonesia.

While acknowledging the programme still faces challenges and shortcomings in its implementation, the president pledged to address the issues so that its benefits can be widely felt.

"What matters is that the benefits must reach all our children, all pregnant women and all elderly people," Prabowo said.

He expressed optimism about strengthening the people's economy through the operation of tens of thousands of Red and White Village Cooperatives.

The government, Prabowo said, will ensure various subsidised goods reach the public at prices in line with government subsidy policies.

In ensuring the country's wealth delivers greater benefits to the people, Prabowo reiterated the importance of having the courage to fight corruption and improve budget efficiency.

The president said the measures had generated hundreds of trillions of rupiah in savings that could be redirected toward improving public welfare.

"Through our savings efforts, we have already been able to save hundreds of trillions of rupiah. That money is what we use to provide the greatest possible assistance to the poorest and most vulnerable people," President Prabowo Subianto said.
