Pokémon FireRed And LeafGreen Officially Giving Away A Free Legendary In October 7 Update

The Pokémon games of Generation III remain some of the best and most popular in the series to date, and for good reason. While Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald draw in much of the plaudits, FireRed and LeafGreen were also pretty spectacular in their own right, and there remains a dedicated audience for all of those releases many years later.

For the most part, the games only live on in their original form, and you'll need to head back to play them if you want to experience some of that nostalgic joy again. That said, there is another release where older titles return to the fore in the way many of them deserve, and it's worth being aware of if you're a fan of the older titles.

Free Celebi With New Pokemon HOME Update

Most folks who play Pokémon games on the Nintendo Switch will be aware of Pokémon HOME, a central hub for all of your owned games that allows players to save and manage their collections across multiple games in one place. It also allows for transfers between those games, as well as supporting global trading and a National Pokédex that allows you to see your whole collection in one place.

It's a pretty cool idea and, as first reported by GoNintendo, Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version are both set to link with Pokémon HOME, starting on October 7. Once linked, you’ll be able to transfer the Pokémon you have caught in these titles to Pokémon HOME, before bringing them to other games in the series.

As a further incentive to play those games again (if you need one), you can also earn the Mythical Pokémon Celebi on the mobile version of Pokémon HOME, as a gift for completing the Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version Pokédex. It's worth noting you don't have to trade Pokémon into the app for them to register for that reward either, as anything you have caught in the game will automatically be counted once linked.

There are other changes coming with the October 7 update as well, with trainers finally able to transfer in 'mons caught using a Safari Ball in Pokémon GO for the first time. Those who pay for the Premium version will also see their storage capacity increase from 6000 to 9000, so you don't have to worry about running out with the new games in play.

Winds And Waves Is Next On The List

The next big Pokémon release on the horizon is undoubtedly Winds and Waves, which is set to arrive next year on an as yet unannounced date. That will bring a whole raft of new creations to the table as the first game of the tenth generation, so it's probably a good thing that we have so much more storage to keep all of our new catches.
