In the finale, we discover Bella (Benedetta Porcaroli) was killed by Eddie’s brother Freddy (Daniel Ings) and John ‘The Gospel’ Dixon (Pearce Quigley).

As for their motivations, John blames Eddie for the murder of his own brother Tommy (Peter Serafinowicz) in the first season, while Freddy holds some resentment against his brother after his father wrote him out of the will, making Eddie the heir.

The duo killed Bella by rigging an airplane to explode at a certain altitude, in the hope they would kill both Eddie and Bella – but only the latter was on board.

Subsequently, they planned an assault on Halstead Manor to kill Eddie and remove any threats to Freddy’s claim. However, this plan also goes awry, as everyone survives.

After learning that Freddy and John killed his wife, Eddie tricks John into attending a meeting, with help from Carlos Vargas (Cosimo Fusco), and kidnaps him.

Then, Eddie confronts Freddy outside his rehab facility. This leads to a scrap on the field outside, which ends with Eddie holding his brother at gunpoint. Eddie spares Freddy, but he mutters “someone’s got to die”. At this moment, a van turns up with John strapped up in the back, alongside one of Susie’s (Kaya Scodelario) men, who is armed with a chainsaw.

Freddy is thrown into the back of the van and the door is closed. We hear the chainsaw fire up and muffled screams. A few moments later, Freddy steps out of the van in a crazed state, holding up the decapitated head of John. The final shot of the episode shows Freddy screaming into the distance, covered in blood.

This ties back to themes of forgiveness and vengeance throughout the season, as Eddie straddles the two by sparing one, and murdering another.
