ULM strengthens academic ties at Borneo University Convention

Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) is strengthening its international academic network through its participation in the 2026 KUUB International Convention in East Kalimantan Province.
KUUB is a consortium linking universities across Borneo, including Indonesia’s Kalimantan region, Malaysia’s Sabah and Sarawak, and Brunei Darussalam.
Speaking to ANTARA here Wednesday, ULM Rector Iwan Aflanie said he spoke at a convention dialogue on institutional integrity during governance reforms and transitions.
The convention’s theme, “Shifting Governance: Lessons on Institutional Integrity From the Capital Transition,” was highly relevant to Indonesia’s current circumstances, he said.
Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara, in East Kalimantan, is targeted to become fully operational in 2028, posing challenges during the transition, he said.
“As the largest and leading state university in Kalimantan, ULM must contribute to development in Nusantara,” Iwan said.
He said KUUB plays a strategic role in exchanging knowledge to help higher education institutions uphold integrity, adapt to change, and compete globally.
ULM remains committed to university-led exchanges of ideas to address changing regional dynamics, he said.
