Marvel Studios Reportedly Broke Disney+ Streaming Record Ahead Of Avengers: Doomsday Release

Ahead of Avengers: Doomsday’s release at the end of the year, there’s word that Marvel Studios reportedly broke a huge record on Disney+.

2026 has been eventful for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly on the film front, despite the smaller output compared to 2025. Although Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the only movie in the franchise that’s been released so far this year, it’s become a massive box office success, and Avengers: Doomsday is poised to follow suit in December. On top of that, 2026 will also reportedly go down as Marvel's biggest year on Disney+.

Deadline reports that in addition to Avengers: Doomsday tickets pre-sales passing $50 million, Marvel also scored 420 million views on Disney+ during August, the franchise’s highest amount in the streaming service’s history. This is chiefly driven by the anticipation for Doomsday, resulting in, as the publication describes it, “the highest lift Disney+ has ever seen driven by a theatrical release at over 200 [million] hours.” This streaming accomplishment follows Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s $2.4 billion worldwide haul, making it the third highest-grossing movie of all time.

The MCU has had a presence on Disney+ since a handful of its movies were part of the streaming service’s opening catalog when it launched in late 219. With the addition of Spider-Man: No Way Home this past April, all the MCU movies are available to watch on Disney+, except for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is still playing in theaters. It hasn’t been announced yet when Brand New Day will arrive on the platform.

Additionally, Marvel Studios has been releasing Disney+-exclusive TV shows and specials since WandaVision at the start of 2021. In 2026, that output has included Wonder Man season 1, Daredevil: Born Again season 2, and The Punisher: One More Kill for the main MCU franchise, as well as X-Men ’97 season 2. VisionQuest is the final upcoming Marvel TV show of 2026, premiering in October, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 is set for a January 2027 release.

Avengers: Doomsday marks the beginning of the end of the Multiverse Saga. Originally, the movie was titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and would have seen Jonathan Majors’ many Kang variants wreaking havoc on the Marvel multiverse following the actor’s previous appearances following Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. However, after Marvel Studios fired Majors in December 2023, Robert Downey Jr. was courted back to the MCU to play Doctor Doom, the new main antagonist, hence the Doomsday title change.

More than 30 characters are confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, with the Avengers, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and other protagonists banding together to combat Doom and the “existential threat” he poses to the multiverse. Just like how Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were closely linked, Doomsday’s story will lead into next year’s Avengers: Secret Wars, which will conclude Phase Six and the Multiverse Saga. Joe and Anthony Russo direct both movies, and Michael Waldron, Stephen McFeely, Chris McKenna, and Erik Sommers all worked on both scripts.

Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on Friday, December 18, the same day as Dune: Part Three from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures.
