Tanvi Sharma beats Rachel Chan in straight games at Vietnam Open 2026

Top seed Tanvi Sharma defeated Canada’s Rachel Chan 21-16, 21-17 in straight games in the Round of 32 at the Vietnam Open 2026 on Wednesday to advance to the next round of the BWF World Tour Super 100 event.

Earlier this month, Tanvi bowed out of the China Masters 2026 after a thrilling 66-minute battle against Japan’s World No. 9 Tomoka Miyazaki, going down 17-21, 21-18, 16-21 in the Round of 16 in Shenzhen.

The Indian teenager had booked her place in the last 16 with an impressive straight-games win over Denmark’s Amalie Schulz, beating her 21-16, 21-17 in the opening round of the BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament.

Just last month, Tanvi won her maiden BWF World Tour title after defeating Vietnam’s sixth seed Nguyen Thuy Linh 21-16, 21-16 in the women’s singles final of the Taipei Open Super 300 in Taipei.

Tanvi, who finished runner-up at last year’s U.S. Open Super 300, needed just 36 minutes to beat Nguyen in the summit clash.

Coached by P.V. Sindhu’s former mentor Park Tae-sang, Tanvi also became the first Indian to win the women’s singles title at the Taipei Open since Saina Nehwal, who lifted the trophy in 2008.

Earlier in the day at the Vietnam Open, Anmol Kharb lost to Thailand’s Sarunrak Vitidsarn 14-21, 14-21, while Alap Mishra defeated compatriot Arya Bhivpathaki 21-8, 21-14.
