The Time Lord is officially on its way back to us! The BBC has unveiled a first look at its new animated spin-off, Doctor Who: TARDIS Crew!

Across 52 eleven-minute episodes, the CBeebies series is set to follow the Doctor, a young Time Lord, and his friends Hannah, Beastie and Toast-IE as they embark on extraordinary adventures through time and space - and of course will come face to face with iconic foes.

A first-look snap shows the animated Time Lord ready for action with his companions, with some adorable Daleks chasing after the gang.

Kate Morton, senior head of commissioning for CBeebies, said: "The TARDIS is ready for its youngest crew yet. Packed with imagination, humour and adventure, Doctor Who: TARDIS Crew will inspire children to be curious, courageous and kind as they explore incredible worlds across time and space.

"It's everything families love about Doctor Who, wonder, excitement and endless possibility, reimagined for CBeebies' youngest explorers."

The series is currently in production and will arrive on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer in late 2027/early 2028. It's produced by Blue Zoo Animation Studio, with Dominic Minns serving as series director. Minns previously directed acclaimed CBeebies series including Mojo Swoptops and Supertato.

He previously in a statement that his appointment on the Doctor Who series "feels like a huge and exciting next step" and that he's "thrilled" to be working on the project.

He added: "My goal is to fully utilise the full talents of both Blue and Brighton Zoo to capture the epic scale and wonder of the series, while making it delightful, funny, and relatable for preschoolers. It’s an honour to be here."

It's not the first time that Doctor Who has launched a Whoniverse show for children, with CBBC series The Sarah Jane Adventures running for five seasons from 2007 to 2011.

The series saw Elisabeth Sladen reprise her role from Doctor Who as the titular character. A reunion special aired in 2020 to say goodbye to the character and to actress Sladen following her death.

Meanwhile, the main show has officially been put out to tender, with the BBC confirming it is looking at a 2028/2029 transmission.

Doctor Who: TARDIS Crew will be available to watch on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer.
