EPL: Unleash Anfield Crowd On Manchester City –Carragher Advises Liverpool Manager

Translate

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged the Reds manager Andoni Iraola to fully weaponize the legendary Anfield atmosphere to secure a vital advantage over Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Manchester City arrive at Anfield sitting at the summit of the table following a blistering start under new manager Enzo Maresca.

Sunday’s blockbuster clash marks a historic turning point: it will be the first Premier League meeting between Liverpool and Manchester City without either Jürgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola in the dugout since March 2015.

With Iraola now at the helm following his summer arrival, former Liverpool defender Carragher believes the Spaniard must tap into the crowd’s unique energy, something he feels the new regime has yet to fully exploit in high-stakes matches.

Speaking on The Overlap, Carragher highlighted the opportunity awaiting the Reds.

“It almost feels like an important game for Liverpool because I feel like everyone’s almost expecting this atmosphere at Anfield. Now this atmosphere will be there, but this team and this manager, because it’s new, have probably not used the Anfield crowd yet to sort of propel it to a performance and win a big game.”

While acknowledging that Iraola naturally prefers to keep his focus strictly on tactical football rather than stoking pre-match fires, Carragher admitted he would love to see the Basque coach lean into the occasion to rattle their title rivals.

“I’m really interested to see how Liverpool go about it and the manager understanding how he uses this crowd,” Carragher continued. “I’m really interested to see what the manager says before the game, actually, because I don’t think it’s in his nature to ramp things up. He just doesn’t come across as that—’I just want to speak about football’, and I can see him batting the City charges away.””And I’m thinking, ‘I wouldn’t mind him just throwing a little hand grenade in there and just revving the supporters up and using the atmosphere to gain the three points, which is the most important thing.'”

As Iraola looks to preserve his strong start on Merseyside and halt City’s early momentum, the Anfield crowd is primed to deliver a cauldron-like backdrop for this new era of the fixture.
