Star Trek: The City On The Edge Of Never Officially Brings Back Spock

Ben Brosofsky has been writing for Screen Rant since 2022 and editing since 2024. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor's in Cinema & Media Arts. Writing serves as a much-needed distraction from tackling a backlog of Steam games that will never be surmounted.
You don't have to be a Star Trek acolyte to know Spock, a character whose distinctive looks and logical mentality have resonated far outside the dedicated fandom. There's a reason the character has proved so indelible, and Leonard Nimoy's iconic portrayal was only the start of a long legacy of performances in the role.
Rather than simply sticking to one, Spock's next comeback will celebrate several of those performances. This treat comes as part of the ongoing celebrations of Star Trek's 60th anniversary, as the first proper episode of the original series, "The Man Trap," changed history when it aired on September 8, 1996.
The latest season of Star Trek Online, "Rediscovered," brings three incarnations of Spock together, as seen in the announcement trailer on YouTube. Ethan Peck, who has portrayed a young Spock in modern television shows, will be stepping into the character once more, alongside video game voice actor Piotr Michael. Leonard Nimoy, meanwhile, will appear as Commander Spock in the form of archival recordings.
Rediscovered released on September 22 on PC, while PlayStation and Xbox Star Trek Online players will have to wait until November 10 to experience the new content for themselves. The Spocks all appear in a new episode called "The City on the Edge of Never," which reimagines an older episode that was removed from the game. It's worth noting that Zachary Quinto, who introduced Spock to a new generation of fans in the Kelvin Timeline films, does not feature in the update.
For the uninitiated, Star Trek Online is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game based on the franchise, delivering sci-fi adventures through an ongoing free-to-play model. The game has been up and running on PC since 2010, making its way to PlayStation and Xbox systems in 2016.
By this time, Star Trek Online naturally has a wealth of content for players to discover, making it a real contender for the definitive Star Trek gaming experience. A sense of endless exploration and discovery has always been a huge part of what makes Star Trek special, and Star Trek Online is better equipped to capture that magic than anything else on the market.
This year has been a special treat for fans, with the interactive environments serving as a great place to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the franchise. On September 8, a one-day event with multiple panels on art, design, voice acting, and the future of the game was held in a virtual convention format, and 60th anniversary gifts have been offered to players. If there's ever been a good time to get into Star Trek Online, it's now, and the game appears to be going as strong as ever.
