Hostile Reception As Crowd Heckles Senator Karen Nyamu At KICC Awareness Rally

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu faced a hostile reception on Sunday, September 27, 2026, after a section of the crowd heckled her during Natalie Githinji’s Endometriosis Warriors (N.E.W.) awareness event held at the KICC Comesa Grounds in Nairobi.

The free-entry gathering drew thousands of attendees to sensitize, empower, and celebrate women living with endometriosis, a painful condition affecting millions globally that remains widely underdiagnosed in Kenya.

Footage from the event showed Nyamu addressing the packed auditorium while sponsor banners, including those from RFH Healthcare Cancer Centre, lined the background. As she took to the microphone, portions of the audience interrupted her address with loud chants of “Wantam,” temporarily disrupting her presentation.

Undeterred by the heckling, Nyamu continued her speech, focusing on legislative advocacy and public policy responses to women’s reproductive health challenges. She informed the crowd that she had issued a notice of motion in the Senate on September 10 to draw official government intervention toward endometriosis management and healthcare funding.

“We are left to bring this issue to Parliament,” Nyamu stated, adding that legislative involvement aims to push standards bodies and health ministry officials to prioritize specialized care for affected women.
