India notched up its second consecutive win in the ongoing AFC Under-17 Women’s Asian Cup 2027 Qualifier with a 2-0 victory against Syria in a thunderstorm-interrupted match on Thursday
Anushka Kumari was adjudged player of the match for scoring a brace in the fifth and 55th minute.
Earlier, the game was suspended indefinitely after the second goal due to an approaching thunderstorm.
India was leading 1-0 when the referee halted play because of adverse weather conditions. The suspension came after India had opened its campaign with a 14-0 rout of Iraq, its biggest-ever win at this level.
Interestingly, that match was also interrupted by severe weather, with lightning and thunder forcing a 30-minute stoppage before play resumed once conditions improved.
Once play resumed, India doubled its advantage to secure a 2-0 win and cement its place at the top of its group. India will face Malaysia in its next match.
