The Ministry of Health has unified its emergency response under a single national command structure following the confirmation of a second Ebola case, Director General Dr. Patrick Amoth announced in an official statement on Wednesday.

The measures are being executed under the Public Health (Ebola Disease) Rules, 2026. In accordance with International Health Regulations (2005), the World Health Organization (WHO) has been formally notified, demonstrating Kenya’s commitment to international outbreak management standards.

Despite the second confirmed case, the government reassured the public that no restrictions are being placed on travel, commerce, or public gatherings, emphasizing that the country remains fully open.

How Ebola Spreads and Symptoms to Monitor Health officials reiterated that Ebola is not an airborne virus. Transmission requires direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected or deceased person. Authorities are urging citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and aware of key warning signs.

Members of the public should seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility if they experience any of the following symptoms:

  • High fever and severe fatigue

  • Muscle or joint pain

  • Vomiting and diarrhea

  • Unexplained bleeding

Public Cooperation and Privacy Dr. Amoth appealed for compassion and responsibility, asking the public to respect the privacy of affected families and refrain from sharing unverified news. Citizens are advised to rely strictly on official Ministry updates and can reach the national helpline by calling the toll-free number 719.
