Binge-watch "one of the best TV series of all time" before anniversary documentary arrives next week

If you haven't watched classic HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, now is the perfect time of binge-watch all 10 episodes. The drama is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month, with special HBO Max documentary Band of Brothers: Legacy airing on Wednesday 9 September.

Band of Brothers was based on the 1992 non-fiction book of the same name by Stephen E. Ambrose. It was created by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, who also served as executive producers.

The series starred a host of famous faces including Ron Livingston, David Schwimmer, James McAvoy, Damian Lewis, Dominic Cooper and Michael Fassbender, as well as Tom Hardy and Stephen Graham in what were some of their earliest roles.

Set during World War II it follows the history of "Easy" Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, from their training to their journey across Europe on the Western Front.

The series was highly praised by critics, with Empire placing it at number 20 on their list of the '100 Best TV Shows of All Time'.

It also holds a near-perfect 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with The Guardian calling it "one of the best shows ever to grace the small screen."

HBO Max documentary Band of Brothers: Legacy will feature new interviews with stars of the series as well as never-before-seen archival footage, photographs and additional video diaries recorded by Livingston and Richard Speight Jr during filming.

The streamers says it aims to provide "an intimate look at the series’ production and enduring impact," and will be "a tribute to the groundbreaking series that helped preserve the story of Easy Company and deepened public appreciation for the sacrifices of the Greatest Generation."

Band of Brothers is available to stream on HBO Max, with , Band of Brothers: Legacy airing on Wednesday 9 September.
