Only nine African countries ranked above Bafana Bafana

Translate

Bafana Bafana have climbed to 48th in the world, putting them 10th among African nations. The rise also sees South Africa return to the global top 50, underlining the progress made by the national team in recent months.

PITSO MOSIMANE TAKES BAFANA BAFANA HIGHER

The team’s rise has come after an impressive run of results under Pitso Mosimane.

South Africa opened his return with a 2-1 victory over Guinea before producing a dominant 5-0 win over Eritrea in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

They then completed a perfect international break with a 1-0 victory over Egypt in Cairo, with Puso Dithejane scoring the decisive goal on his international debut.

That means South Afirca have won all three of their matches under Mosimane, scoring eight goals and conceding just one.

The victory over Egypt was particularly important for South Africa’s ranking points, with the result helping push the team further up the FIFA standings.

AFRICA’S TOP 10

Here are the 10 highest-ranked African nations in the latest FIFA rankings:

  1. Morocco – 12th in the world
  2. Senegal – 19th
  3. Egypt – 32nd
  4. Algeria – 36th
  5. Ivory Coast – 41st
  6. Nigeria – 43rd
  7. Tunisia – 49th
  8. Cameroon – 50th
  9. Mali – 53rd
  10. South Africa – 48th.

South Africa’s position is particularly notable given the quality of the teams around them. Mzansi are now ranked among several established African football nations in the global standings.

The latest rise represents a significant moment for South African football after years of struggling to remain among the continent’s leading nations.

With Pitso Mosimane having won his first three matches in charge, Bafana Bafana will now look to build on their momentum and climb even higher when they return to action.
