Truck fire closes M8 tunnel during afternoon peak
A burning tow truck has closed a major motorway tunnel through Sydney’s south-west during the afternoon peak, threatening commuter chaos.
The truck fire just after 4pm closed the M8 tunnel in both directions between Rozelle and Kingsgrove on Thursday.
By 5pm the northbound lanes had reopened, but the tunnel remained closed southbound between St Peters and Kingsgrove.
Emergency services are on scene.
Drivers are advised to seek an alternative route and allow extra travel time with heavy traffic conditions expected.
