Get the tissue box ready - one of 2024's most "devastating" yet "unforgettable" films is now streaming for free on Channel 4. Starring Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott, All of Us Strangers is adapted from the 1987 novel Strangers by Taichi Yamada.

The film follows Adam (Andrew Scott), a lonely screenwriter who has a chance encounter with his mysterious neighbour Harry (Paul Mescal).

As a relationship develops between them, Adam is preoccupied with memories of the past and finds himself drawn back to the suburban town where he grew up and the childhood home of his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell).

All of Us Strangers premiered at the 50th Telluride Film Festival in 2023 before being released in UK cinemas in 2024, and received instant critical acclaim.

It was named one of the top ten independent films of 2023 by the National Board of Review, and earned six BAFTA Award nominations.

All of Us Strangers was also named Film of the Year and LGBTQ Film of the Year by GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics.

The film holds a near-perfect 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics' consensus reading: "All of Us Strangers examines profound grief and love through a fantastical lens that is always grounded on human emotion."

In its review, The Wrap wrote: "A sublime masterpiece. A rumination on grief and love, [director Andrew Haigh]’s poignant and understated ghost story is one of the best films of the year."

Rolling Stone added: "With a quartet of accomplished stars at its centre, All of Us Strangers is a potent exploration of love and loss that will stay with you long after the credits roll."

Empire raved: "After an impressive body of work, Andrew Haigh levels up even further, with a flawless film that reaches for the stars, and gets there. It aches and shimmers."

The New Yorker hailed All of Us Strangers as a "genuinely cinematic experience," while The Hollywood Reporter simply warned, "prepare to be wrecked."

Variety poignantly put it: "All of Us Strangers is therapy for the audience, or at least that specific segment of us who desperately need to hear our fathers say, 'I’m sorry I never came in your room when you were crying.'"
