Coyotes choose the front of a couple's Southern California cabin for an early morning scrap

Translate

The mystery surrounding why a couple's dog barks in the middle of the night at their Southern California cabin has been solved thanks to some early morning surveillance footage.

The footage revealed three coyotes right outside David and Annette Simpson's front door of their cabin in the San Bernardino Mountains. These wild animals weren't there to ask to borrow any sugar either.

They were there to fight. And fight they did for about 40 minutes, starting at around 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

The couple wasn't at home during the scrap in front of their cabin, but the action was caught on their surveillance cameras. What do you with forty minutes of a coyote fight?

Well, naturally, you don't want it to go to waste, so you post it on social media, then sit down for an interview with the local news.

"We wonder why our dog barks in the middle of the night, and now we know," Annette Simpson told KTLA.

Indeed. It must be due to those rambunctious coyotes. While nature doesn’t come calling at your door every day, a dog will certainly know when it does.

They've seen bears, squirrels and other wildlife before, but not a coyote scrap on the walkway in front of the cabin. That's a new one for these two.

Are they worried about how close the coyotes were to their cabin? Not Annette. She's into it.

"I think it’s pretty cool. We really enjoy watching the wildlife and just so close," she said. "Those stairs just lead right to our front door, and they came up those stairs."

They enjoy watching it, but they don’t want it messing with their own domesticated animals. Annette, who said she sometimes lets her cats out on the patio, is reconsidering after watching the footage of these coyotes.
