A new Judge Dredd announcement spinning out of New York Comic Con has blown fans away, with the tantalizing promise that 2027 will celebrate the iconic 2000 AD antihero like few times before. Here's everything you need to know.
Debuting in 1977, Judge Dredd is a satirical sci-fi character - a fascistic lawman in the dystopian Mega-City One, licensed to act as judge, jury and executioner to a packed cityscape where criminals outnumber the judges by 10,000 to one.
2027 will mark the character's fiftieth anniversary, with a variety of celebrations planned. However, easily the biggest was just announced at New York Comic Con...
Judge Dredd x McFarlane Toys Team-Up Explained
At New York Comic Con, 2000 AD and McFarlane Toys have announced a major new partnership, teasing a new wave of toys from Dredd lore. Exact figures and statues haven't been announced yet, but it's clear that the end result will be significant.
McFarlane Toys is known for incredibly detailed action figures and statues for adult collectors, making it the ideal partner for a franchise like Judge Dredd that - with its satirical perspective and gory violence - isn't aimed at younger fans. With characters like Dredd, Judge Death, Mean Machine Angel, Rico, Judge Anderson and rebel sky-surfer Chopper, 2000 AD is packed with iconic characters begging for dedicated collectibles.
With the invocation to "watch this space," it's likely that the products resulting from this partnership will be announced relatively soon in 2026 and go on sale in 2027, making next year a major cause for celebration for fans.
This announcement joins several major events for fans in 2026. October 3 just unleashed the 'Day of Dredd,' with celebrations and signings across the UK. 2000 AD also started publishing the sequel to acclaimed modern classic story Judge Dredd: A Better World, with the ongoing Judge Dredd: The New Future coming from Rob Williams, Arthur Wyatt and Henry Flint.
2000 AD's new Rogue Trooper movie also saw its world premiere in June at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, marking the first cinematic outing for Dredd's stablemate, the blue-skinned, genetically engineered warrior Rogue. The movie is likely to see a wide release in early 2027, making next year even more special for fans.
2027 will also see the release of a new format of Judge Dredd adventures in the 'Compact Crimes' range, collecting some of the character's most iconic appearances, as well as a unique deluxe collection titled Fifty Years of Judge Dredd.
Judge Dredd Is Getting the Merch It's Always Deserved
Compared to other franchises like Marvel or DC, Judge Dredd and the wider 2000 AD line have received relatively few toys and statues, especially in recent decades. It's therefore a huge win for fans that a new line will be sold, and especially that it will come from the well-regarded McFarlane Toys.
Judge Dredd fans are getting a new line of toys spinning out of the cult sci-fi franchise, with specific collectibles to be announced in the weeks and months to come.
