Milwaukee earned the No. 1 seed after a franchise-record 103-win regular season, while San Diego advanced by sweeping the Chicago Cubs in the Wild Card Series.

The Brewers will hand the ball to Jacob Misiorowski, who emerged as one of baseball's most dominant starters this season. The right-hander finished 16-5 with a 1.80 ERA and 252 strikeouts, giving Milwaukee a major weapon at the front of its playoff rotation. The Brewers also enter October with an offense that led MLB with a .258 batting average and .341 on-base percentage while finishing second in runs scored.

San Diego comes into the NLDS with plenty of momentum after going 18-6 in September and then winning both of its Wild Card games. The Padres also had success against Milwaukee during the regular season, winning four of six meetings, including a three-game sweep in San Diego in August. With Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill leading the lineup, the Padres will try to carry that success into Game 1 against the top-seeded Brewers.
