Police car pursuit ends on golf course in Sydney’s east, two arrested

Translate

Two people have been charged after allegedly being involved in a couple of police car pursuits in quick succession that left a police car damaged and a ute abandoned on the green of a golf course in Sydney’s east.

The 38-year-old man and 45-year-old woman first came to attention of police on Saturday night after the black ute they were travelling in failed to stop for drug and alcohol testing on Anzac Parade, Malabar, at 7.15pm during Halloween celebrations.

In the car pursuit that followed, police allege that the driver reached speeds of up to 100km/h, doubling the 50km/h speed limit and driving on the wrong side of the road. Police called off their pursuit given safety concerns once the car drove into the Coast Golf and Recreational Club at Little Bay.

The ute was abandoned after it ploughed into an embankment near the 8th hole and the pair fled the scene.

Less than an hour later the man was spotted by police driving a white hatchback along Anzac Parade in Little Bay, prompting a second police pursuit.

The pursuit ended once the hatchback pulled into a cul-de-sac off Anzac Parade, where it allegedly reversed into the police car.

There were no injuries, but there was minor damage to the police car. The male driver returned a negative result in police testing at the scene.

Following their arrest, the man was charged with five offences, including driving dangerously, speeding, breaching an apprehended violence order and failing to stop.

The woman was charged with resisting police. They were taken into custody ahead of a bail hearing on Sunday.
