Najib granted conditional house arrest in SRC case

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been granted house arrest for the remainder of his sentence on condition that he pays the RM50 million fine imposed over his conviction in the SRC International case.

The Federal Territories Pardons Board said in a statement that the former prime minister must comply with all conditions imposed for him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.

Najib, 73, has been serving a reduced six-year prison sentence at Kajang prison after the FTPB halved his original 12-year sentence in February 2024.

The initial RM210 million fine was also reduced to RM50 million.

Najib is currently serving a prison sentence after the Federal Court, on Aug 23, 2022, upheld his conviction in the SRC International corruption case.

He was found guilty of seven charges involving abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering over RM42 million belonging to SRC International, a former unit of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB). He was sentenced to 12 years' jail and fined RM210 million.

The Pardons Board last week deferred Najib's pardon application at the sitting chaired by His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
