A north Brisbane woman has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to gas her sons.

Police allege the 47-year-old Mitchelton woman attempted to murder the two boys – aged 12 and 15 – by exposing them to a “noxious substance”.

The woman was due to appear in Brisbane’s Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon.Dan Peled

The act was reported to police by a 70-year-old man who detected the poisonous substance when he attended the home on September 24.

The children did not require medical treatment, and are safe and well, police said. Their mother was taken to hospital for treatment.

She was arrested after being discharged from hospital on October 8.

Investigators from the Ferny Grove Child Protection and Investigation Unit charged the woman with two counts of attempted murder – domestic violence offence – against a child.

She is expected to appear before Brisbane’s Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon.

More to come.
