Tom Cruise's "stunning" historical drama with Timothy Spall is now streaming for free

Tom Cruise's newest movie Digger has proven to be a box office bomb, but if you want to remind yourself of when the actor could lead any project to success, The Last Samurai is currently free on streaming.
The film stars Cruise as a haunted American Captain who is hired to train the Japanese Army to put down the samurai that have been labelled as outlaws.
It's not long before he's captured by the warlord Katsumoto and taken to his village, where he starts to learn about the people and the culture, and how they are at threat from modernisation.

Alongside Cruise, the film stars Timothy Spall, Billy Connolly, Tony Goldwyn, Ken Watanabe, and Hiroyuki Sanada.
The film was recently added to ITVX, where it can be streamed for free and doesn't have a visible leaving date, so it looks like it'll be around for a while.
If you'd rather watch it elsewhere, you've actually got plenty of options.
The film is also available on Netflix, HBO Max, and Sky/NOW Cinema. It's worth noting that it won't be available on Netflix for long, as it'll be removed from the service on 5 November.

The Last Samurai was a major box office hit, becoming the sixth-biggest film of 2003 on the big screen with a strong $456.8 million.
Legendary critic Roger Ebert called it "more than an action picture" and praised it for how it "breaks with the convention that the Western hero is always superior to the local culture he immerses in".
His At the Movies co-star Richard Roeper labelled it "an intelligent action film" while The Chicago Tribune called it "a stunning spectacle of cultural violence and a loving tribute to the great Japanese samurai movies" (both via Rotten Tomatoes).
The Last Samurai is available now via multiple streaming services.
