Mikel Gurrea’s ‘Saints’ Lands Distribution Deals Ahead Of San Sebastián Competition Debut — First Look Trailer

EXCLUSIVE: Berlin-based M-Appeal has posted some early sales on Spanish filmmaker Mikel Gurrea’s latest feature, Saints, which debuts this week in competition at the San Sebastián Film Festival. Check out a trailer for the film above.

Elastica Films has taken distribution rights in Spain. The company, which this year is also handling Spain’s Cannes breakout La bola negra, said it will release the film theatrically. The film has also sold to Italy, with Movies Inspired taking distribution rights. The company said it is planning to launch the film theatrically in Spring 2027.

Saints follows Lali, a drifter and a thief, who is pulled back to Barcelona to face and care for her estranged mother Gloria. The official synopsis continues: “Always on the verge of running away, she crosses paths with Rosario, the charismatic leader of a gang that steals religious artefacts. What starts as a quick payday turns into something deeper, as Lali forms an unexpected bond with Rosario and her community. But as Gloria slips further away and the heists grow more audacious, Lali will have to decide where she truly belongs.”

The film stars Victoria Luengo, who most recently starred alongside Javier Bardem in the Cannes competition title The Beloved. Ariadna Gil and Eulàlia Ramon also star.
